Satna (MP), Nov 10: Mounting an acerbic assault on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘expensive’ garments and ‘closeness’ to tycoons Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, erstwhile Congress President Rahul Gandhi alleged on Friday that not a day passes when Modi does not wear new clothes costing lakhs of rupees.
Addressing a rally in this district of election-bound Madhya Pradesh, the visiting leader made an oblique reference to the Prime Minister’s humble background when he averred, “Mr Modi’s suits cost Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore and he speaks of ‘tea’! On any given day, he sports at least two suits.
Have you ever seen Mr Modi wearing the same garments for two consecutive days?”
Contrasting that with his own ‘frugal’ taste, Mr Gandhi went on to say, “My white T-shirt is sufficient and this is what I wear.”
Accusing the Prime Minister of issuing contradictory statements, the Congress bigwig said that Mr Modi says he belongs to the OBC category but in a recent speech claimed that India has only one caste, namely the impoverished.
“Mr Modi does not desire to reveal the country’s truth and never publicly mentions a caste census. He is remote-controlled by Mr Adani. The television set is in front of you whereas the remote is someplace else, that is the truth. Funds are funnelled to a handful of tycoons including Mr Ambani and Mr Adani,” Mr Gandhi alleged.
