Damoh, Oct 28: In an endeavour to attract the youthful segment of the electorate, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tore into saffron ranks on Saturday by alleging that employment generation has been close to nil over the past three years in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh thereby contributing to an exodus from Bundelkhand region.

Addressing a rally in this district headquarters of poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Priyanka averred, “If the situation had not been a tragedy then it would have been a farce.

Joblessness has never been so severe in India over the past 45 years. The regimes at the Centre and in the state are running for tycoons alone even as a certain political bigwig travels in an aircraft that was purchased for a whopping Rs 8,000 crore.”

Pointing out that public-sector undertakings earlier played the role of large-scale job generators, she alleged that the country’s assets were handed over at dirt-cheap rates to a top politician’s industrialist friends.

“Small businesses were back-broken by demonetisation and GST, the MGNREGS was weakened and there was no relief for the peasantry. In such circumstances, how are debts being waived vis-à-vis tycoon Gautam Adani and other industrialists?” the Congress leader thundered.

The visiting leader said that when she asks the populace regarding their expectations, the invariable response is that their existences are replete with hardship and struggle.

“Their minimum expectation from leaders, political parties and governments is a quantum of assistance – namely proper roads, adequate water and power, work and relief from high prices. They hope that the dispensation will be a participant in constructing their lives,” Priyanka narrated.

While lamenting that numerous government positions are lying vacant in Madhya Pradesh – including those of doctors – she touched on issues such as the old pension scheme, a caste census and “the façade” of women’s reservation.
