Kolhapur Airport Gets Major Upgrade: New ATC Tower, Technical Block & Fire Station Inaugurated; First Flight to Nagpur Flagged Off

Kolhapur, May 16, 2025:
In a major boost to Maharashtra’s aviation sector, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, yesterday inaugurated a newly built ATC (Air Traffic Control) Tower, Technical Block, and Fire Station at Kolhapur Airport. He also flagged off the first Star Air flight between Kolhapur and Nagpur, marking a new chapter in regional air connectivity.

These developments are part of the Government of India’s efforts, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, to improve air safety, enhance emergency response facilities, and expand air connectivity across various parts of the country.

Speaking at the event, Minister Mohol thanked the people of Kolhapur for their warm welcome and emphasized the government’s commitment to building modern and inclusive aviation infrastructure that benefits all regions.

Several dignitaries attended the ceremony, including Shrimant Shahu Maharaj Chhatrapati (Kolhapur MP), Prakash Abitkar (Guardian Minister, Kolhapur), Rajya Sabha MP Dhananjay Mahadik, Hatkanangale MP Dhairyasheel Mane, M. Suresh (Member, Air Navigation Services, AAI), MLA Amal Mahadik (Kolhapur South), MLA Ashokrao Mane (Hatkanangle), MLA Rahul Aawade (Ichalkaranji), and senior officials and staff of the Airports Authority of India.

This new infrastructure is expected to improve the overall efficiency and safety of air operations at Kolhapur Airport and support the region’s economic and tourism growth.
