A Scenic Shortcut to the Sahyadris: New Bridge to Connect Ratnagiri and Mahabaleshwar

A beautiful new journey through Western Maharashtra is on the horizon — thanks to a ₹175-crore cable-stayed bridge currently under construction. This ambitious project will connect Gadhavali Ahir in Ratnagiri to Tapola in Satara, reducing the travel distance to Mahabaleshwar by nearly 50 kilometers.

Travel Will Never Be the Same Again

Right now, travelers have to take the long and winding Ambenali Ghat route via Poladpur. But with the new bridge, people coming from Ratnagiri will enjoy a faster, more scenic drive through Raghuveer Ghat in Khed Taluka, passing the remote Koyna Valley, and reaching Mahabaleshwar via Tapola and the Kas Plateau — a stretch known for its ecological beauty and peaceful landscapes.

A New Icon for Western Maharashtra

Modelled on Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli Sea Link, this will be Western Maharashtra’s first-ever cable-stayed bridge. Built by T&T Infrastructure, the bridge will be:

  • 540 meters long
  • 14 meters wide
  • Feature a 43-meter-high central span with capsule lifts and stairs, giving tourists panoramic views of Koyna backwaters and Sahyadri sunsets

It’s expected to be completed by December this year and promises to become a major tourist attraction in its own right.

More Than Just a Bridge — A Tourism Boost

For travelers from Pune, this new route connects many different landscapes and experiences in one seamless trip:

  • The cultural and culinary richness of Ratnagiri
  • The eco-tourism charm of Koyna and Tapola
  • The spiritual and historic heritage of Mahabaleshwar

This means you can enjoy the coast, valleys, and hill stations — all in one journey.

Making Heritage More Accessible

This bridge isn’t just an infrastructure project. It’s a vision for the future of tourism in Maharashtra. It will unite:

  • Nature lovers exploring the Sahyadris
  • History buffs visiting temples and colonial landmarks
  • Foodies and culture seekers discovering the flavors of the Konkan

With this route, exploring becomes easier, travel becomes smoother, and the rich heritage of Maharashtra becomes more accessible to all.

Your Future Scenic Route:

Ratnagiri → Gadhavali → Raghuveer Ghat → Tapola → Kas Plateau → Mahabaleshwar → Satara → Pune
