Revant Himatsingka, widely known as the “Food Pharmer,” is shining a light on hidden practices in the health insurance industry that often lead to claim rejections or reduced payouts. A certified health coach and advocate for health literacy, Himatsingka explained how certain clauses, exclusions, and blacklisted hospitals result in nearly 50% of claims being denied.
Unfortunately, 50% of all health insurance claims in India are either rejected or partially paid.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he launched the “Terms and Conditions Samjhega India Campaign” to educate people about misleading practices in different industries, starting with health insurance. Over 80% of his followers voted for health insurance as the first topic to address.
Himatsingka pointed out key issues:
- Reasonable and Customary Clause: Insurers may cap payouts based on what they consider “reasonable,” forcing patients to pay extra.
- Blacklisted Hospitals: Claims may be denied for treatments at specific hospitals due to disputes.
- Permanent Exclusions: Some conditions or treatments, like those linked to alcohol use or cosmetic surgeries, are never covered.
To help individuals avoid financial surprises, he advised asking insurers for detailed explanations, consulting certified advisors, and thoroughly understanding policy exclusions. Through his campaign, Himatsingka aims to promote transparency in health insurance, empowering people to make better decisions and avoid unexpected costs during medical emergencies.
