Belagavi, Dec 18 – Days after a tribal woman was paraded naked in Belagavi district, BJP MP Aprajita Sarangi on Saturday said it is extremely unfortunate that the Gandhi family is silent over the incident.
“It is extremely unfortunate the entire Gandhi family is keeping mum on this incident. Neither Sonia Gandhi nor Priyanka Gandhi, being women, have said anything. As far as Rahul Gandhi is concerned, he is a veteran as far as diverting topics are concerned.

“We are talking of a victimised woman who has been brutally assaulted and paraded naked. This is an extreme form of inhumanity. And even at this junction, the entire family of Gandhi chooses to keep mum,” she said.

Sarangi said that the fact-finding team visited the hospital and spoke to the woman. It also visited the village and spoke to the people who witnessed the horrific incident.
The team also spoke to the victim’s husband and the inspector incharge who was just appointed, Sarangi said. “We have collected lots of information and we are aghast,” she complained.
Sarangi alleged that the state government has only made the announcement of Rs 5 lakh compensation to the family of the victim.

“There was a tremendous sense of fear in the village we went to. Nobody was feeling enough to come out into the open and talk to us. There is fear and there is a sense of apprehension,” she stated.
“The only request that all these women and all the villages made to us was, to please ensure that they do not come out of the prison. In case they came out of prison, the state government should assure us, should stand by us and assure us that we are not harmed hereafter. Why did it happen at all that’s the question,” Sarangi added.

Another fact-finding member Sunita Duggal alleged that the crime was committed upon the tribal woman by suspects having a background in the Congress party.
“I feel that all this (crime upon tribal woman) has been on the behest of the government because those who committed the crime have the background of Congress party. They (accused) have affiliation with the district in-charge chief, or the minister,” one of the members of the fact-finding team Sunita Duggal told a section of media here.

“Hence, there was a delay in the police to take action. This is very clear from it,” she added.
Duggal alleged that the police had foisted different sections in the FIR, but changed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National BJP President JP Nadda’s intervention into the matter. “This means that they (accused and Congress) are in collusion,” she alleged.
