Former cricketer Vinod Kambli is currently in the ICU at Akruti Hospital in Thane after his health worsened last Saturday. The 52-year-old, who is facing financial difficulties, has received ₹5 lakh in financial help from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for his treatment. This support comes after a viral video showed Kambli struggling with his health during a recent event.
Kambli, whose only income is a pension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has had trouble covering his medical expenses. In response, many have come forward to help. Mangesh Chivate, the Officer on Special Duty for Shinde, visited Kambli at the hospital to ensure his treatment is going well and to check on his progress with the doctors. Chivate assured Kambli that all needed support would be provided. Kambli thanked Shinde for his help and invited him to visit him in the hospital. Shinde, along with his son and MP Shrikant Shinde, is expected to meet Kambli soon.
Kambli was admitted to the ICU for a urinary tract infection and has been closely monitored by doctors. Although he had a fever on Tuesday, his condition is stable. Doctors are hopeful that he will be moved out of the ICU soon and may be discharged in about four days.
