Lucknow, Nov 22: The Uttar Pradesh government is intensifying efforts to enhance the safety of women, children, and senior citizens by expanding surveillance through CCTV installations. Under the ambitious Safe City Project, the focus is on 17 municipal corporations, along with government and non-government educational institutions in Gautam Buddha Nagar.

The initiative extends to monitoring private coaching institutes to deter potential troublemakers and prevent incidents of molestation. Stringent guidelines have been issued to ensure the safety of girls in these coaching institutes, including the prohibition of late evening classes.

As part of the Safe City Project, 17 municipal corporations and 2,500 schools in Gautam Buddha Nagar were identified for CCTV installation. Currently, 1,692 schools have operational CCTV systems, with ongoing efforts to cover the remaining institutions. A total of 26,568 CCTV cameras have been installed, encompassing government schools, aided schools, and unaided schools, securing classrooms, corridors, and entry/exit points.

The project also extends to higher education institutions, with 5,505 cameras installed in 162 such institutions. This includes state degree and PG colleges, aided degree and PG colleges, unaided degree/PG colleges, and state universities.

In the realm of coaching institutes, 17 municipal corporations and 606 such establishments in Gautam Buddha Nagar have been identified for CCTV installation. Of these, 418 coaching institutes already have 866 installed cameras, while the remaining 188 are undergoing the installation process. These CCTV systems are integrated with the smart city’s control room by the Urban Development Department.

Addressing the safety concerns for girls, the Yogi government has issued guidelines to coaching institutes, emphasizing concrete safety arrangements. These include restricting evening classes for girls, ensuring timely departures, and implementing security measures against fire incidents.
