Hyderabad, Oct 25: R Krishnaiah, the National President of the Backward Class (BC) Welfare Association and a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to introduce a BC Bill in Parliament that would provide 50 per cent reservations in legislatures.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, a copy of which was released to the media on Tuesday, Krishnaiah pointed out that the BJP party has announced the allocation of more seats to BCs. However, he believes this is not a permanent solution. He emphasized the need for the introduction of a BC Bill, similar to the Women’s Bill, which would provide a lasting solution to the issue. He further suggested that the BJP should promise to offer more seats to BCs than any other party in Telangana during the next assembly elections.

Given the BJP’s position in power at the center, Krishnaiah raised the question of any obstacles preventing the introduction of the BC Bill. He stressed that if the BJP is genuinely committed to the welfare of BCs, they should present the BC Bill in Parliament. Additionally, he proposed the establishment of a dedicated ministry for BCs at the central level, with an annual budget allocation of two lakh crores. He urged that the BC Bill should be introduced similarly to the Women’s Bill.

Krishnaiah highlighted the collective concern of political parties about the fairness of ticket allocation in assembly elections to BCs. He emphasized the strength of the BC movement in the state and warned that BCs would demonstrate their influence in the upcoming elections.
