Hyderabad, Oct 2: Late on Sunday, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) expressed his joy for the remarkable achievements of Telangana Boxer Nikhat Zareen and Athlete Agasara Nandini at the Asian Games in China.
In a statement, CM KCR praised the medal-winning athletes for bringing honor to Telangana and enhancing India’s prestige. He specifically acknowledged the role of Telangana Gurukulams in nurturing exceptional talents who have excelled on the Asian Games stage.
The CM lauded the athletes for not only winning medals but also for setting new records, contributing to India’s global reputation. He attributed the success of Telangana’s boxing champion and Heptathlon athlete to the unwavering support provided by the state government.
CM KCR reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting athletes and enabling them to achieve numerous milestones in international sports.
Agasara Nandini, a student of Telangana Gurukula, secured the bronze medal in Heptathlon at the ongoing Asian Games. She is the sole athlete from Telangana participating in athletics at the Asian Games. Nandini is currently a second-year BBA student at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Women’s Degree College, Sangareddy.
Despite being born into an economically disadvantaged family, Nandini’s father, Yallaiah, who operates a tea shop, enrolled his daughter in Gurukula school. Nandini displayed a remarkable passion for sports alongside her academic excellence, consistently delivering outstanding performances at various international events.
Nikhat Zareen, hailing from Nizamabad and residing in Hyderabad, made her athletics debut at the age of 12 and went on to become the world champion twice. Nikhat is the second Indian boxer, after the legendary Mary Kom, to secure multiple World Championships in the women’s boxing senior category.
Nikhat’s father, a sports enthusiast involved in cricket and football, played a crucial role in training his four daughters as accomplished sportspersons. The visionary approach of CM KCR and the support provided to athletes have yielded remarkable results.
