Hyderabad, Oct 2: The Telangana Gig And Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) urged the state government and all political parties on Monday to implement a social security framework for gig and platform workers in the state, including drivers for Ola, Uber, Rapido, Porter, and delivery partners for Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon, and Urban Company.
In an official release, Shaik Salauddin, Founder State President of TGPWU, highlighted that the Government of Rajasthan has already enacted legislation to ensure the social security of gig and platform workers in their state.
The Rajasthan Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Bill, 2023 establishes provisions for the creation of a welfare board dedicated to providing social protection and benefits for workers in Rajasthan.
Salauddin stated that by adopting such a comprehensive social security framework, the Government of Rajasthan has set a precedent that can serve as a model for replication at both national and global levels.”
