Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda Face Legal Action Over Controversial Scene in ‘Jaat’
Jalandhar, April 19: Actors Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda have landed in legal trouble over a controversial scene in their recently released film Jaat, which has sparked outrage within the Christian community. An FIR has been registered against the two actors, along with the film’s director Gopichand Malineni and producer Naveen Malineni, at the Sadar Police Station in Jalandhar, Punjab.
The complaint, filed by Christian community leader Viklaav Goldie, alleges that a specific scene in the film insults Jesus Christ and sacred Christian symbols. The sequence in question features Randeep Hooda’s character, Ranatunga, depicted in a crucifix-like pose while wielding a weapon, followed by a violent confrontation. The community claims that the portrayal was intentionally provocative and hurt religious sentiments.
The FIR has been filed under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.
In response to the backlash and intensifying protests, the filmmakers issued a formal apology and confirmed the immediate removal of the disputed scene from all versions of the film. “Our intention was never to hurt any religious sentiments. We deeply regret it and sincerely apologize to everyone whose beliefs were hurt,” the official statement read.
Despite boasting a star-studded cast and a production budget of ₹100 crore, Jaat has underperformed at the box office, earning ₹76 crore globally in its first eight days. Industry analysts believe the controversy may have impacted the film’s theatrical run.
As tensions continue in Punjab, the matter is now under judicial consideration.
