Chennai, Oct 21: – Emotional scenes unfolded as thousands of devotees from Tamil Nadu and neighboring states bid a tearful adieu to spiritual guru Bangaru Adigalar, whose mortal remains were laid to rest on Friday evening with full state honors.

The final rites took place at the Adiparasakthi Temple complex in Melmaruvathur, approximately 100 km from Chennai, in accordance with the wishes of the revered spiritual leader. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, along with senior Cabinet colleagues, paid their respects at Mr. Adigalar’s residence before the body was taken in a procession to the temple complex for the public to pay their last respects.

A large number of people, forming queues, filed past the body of Mr. Adigalar as a mark of homage before the ceremonial laying to rest with full state honors.

Given the substantial turnout of devotees, over 2,500 police personnel were deployed for security, and the Chengalpattu district administration declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Melmaruvathur taluk as a mark of respect. The departed spiritual leader, known for revolutionizing the practice of allowing women to perform pujas during their menstrual periods, received tributes from Governor R.N. Ravi, Minister K. Ponmudy, and DMK MP S. Jagathratshagan.
