Twenty-one Bangladeshi individuals, comprising 15 men, four women, and two transgenders were apprehended in the Ranjangaon MIDC area for residing illegally. The operation was a collaborative effort between the Anti-Terrorism Squad and the Pune Rural Police, as confirmed by Pune Rural Police Superintendent Pankaj Deshmukh on Tuesday.
The arrested individuals had been living in India for different durations, with some having worked as laborers for periods ranging from six months to seven or eight years. During the investigation, it was discovered that nine of them possessed fake Aadhaar cards and PAN cards, while one had a counterfeit voter ID card.
The operation was launched after Assistant Police Inspector Prakash Pawar and Assistant Faujdar Vishal Gavhane from the Anti-Terrorism Squad received tips about Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the Karegaon area of Ranjangaon MIDC. A search operation, led by Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar from the Local Crime Branch and Police Inspector Mahadev Waghmode from the Ranjangaon MIDC Police Station, resulted in the arrests of the 21 individuals.
The detained Bangladeshi individuals were brought before the Shirur court, which has ordered them to remain in police custody until October 24. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Pune Rural Police Superintendent Pankaj Deshmukh, Additional Superintendent Ramesh Chopde, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prashant Dhole. Police Sub-Inspector Avinash Thorat is leading the ongoing investigation.
