Gadchiroli, Dec 15 – At least two Naxals, including a senior leader allegedly involved in the 2019
Jambulkheda blast, were allegedly killed in an encounter with police in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Thursday, a senior police official said here.


Acting on intelligence inputs that a substantial number of Naxals was camping near Bodhintola on the
Chhattisgarh border close to Godalwahi outpost with an intention to carry out acts of sabotage and ambush police forces, a police team was deployed for the combing operation.


As the Naxals opened fire on the police team, they retaliated. In ensuing exchange of fire, two Naxals were gunned down.
At end of gun battle which lasted for almost an hour, the bodies of Durgesh Watti, deputy commander of Kasansur Dalam (squad), a prominent figure involved in the planning of the Jambulkheda blast that claimed the lives of 15 police personnel of Gadchiroli Police in 2019, and another male Naxal were found from the spot.


Alongside the casualties, police also recovered an AK-47 rifle and a self-loading rifle (SLR), the official said.
Further search was underway in the area, he added.
