PM Modi concerned about Sikkim natural disaster

Gangtok,Oct 4 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, talked to Sikkim Chief Minister about the Lhonak Glacial lake outburst and flash floods caused by heavy rains.

The PM assured all possible help to the State, after he was told about the ground reality by Tamang , who was apprised at 3 am about the calamity taking place on Wednesday. He visited a spot in Singtam and directed quick evacuation.

Subsequently Central Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba , chaired a meeting of National Crisis Management Committee,which was joined by Chief Secretary Sikkim, VB Pathak.Gauba, has directed evacuation of people stranded in the tunnel at Chungthang on priority and restoration of connectivity ,road transport .
The National Disaster Response Teams have been successful in recovering some of the bodies missing due to mud slide and floods including one of Indo Tibetan Border Police .

Schools in Sikkim have been closed till October’8 because of the natural calamity.
