New Delhi, Oct 20: A day after a devastating airstrike claimed the lives of hundreds at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed serious concern over civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict. He conveyed condolences for the tragic loss of lives and urged accountability for those responsible for the explosion at the hospital.
“Deeply shocked at the tragic loss of lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, and prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured. Civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict are a matter of serious and continuing concern. Those involved should be held responsible,” Modi stated in a post on ‘X.’
The attack on the hospital has garnered global condemnation, with leaders worldwide expressing outrage. US President Joe Biden, in a statement on ‘X,’ conveyed his deep sadness and outrage, directing his national security team to gather information. He emphasized the unequivocal stance of the United States for the protection of civilian life during conflict.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the Al Ahli Hospital was operational, providing care to patients, health professionals, and internally displaced individuals. The hospital was among 20 facing evacuation orders from the Israeli military in the north of the Gaza Strip.
Despite the denial of involvement by the Israeli military, which attributes the blast to a failed rocket launch by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization, calls for a thorough investigation into the incident and accountability for those responsible continue to escalate.
