A passenger arriving from Kuwait was caught at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after customs officials found gold hidden in an unusual way.
Suspicious Behavior
The Customs’ Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) noticed the man acting nervously while passing through the green channel, which led them to examine him more closely.
Gold Hidden in Underwear
During the check, officers found something odd about the waistband of his underwear, which was unusually thick. They discovered he was wearing two layers of underwear. The outer layer, weighing about 1.5 kilograms, raised further suspicion.
When officials cut open the waistband, they found 1,321 grams of gold paste hidden inside a white strip.
Arrest and Investigation
The gold, worth a significant amount, was seized, and the passenger was arrested. He had traveled from Kuwait and has been sent to jail. Investigations are ongoing to uncover any accomplices or smuggling networks linked to the case.
Customs’ Efforts to Prevent Smuggling
This incident highlights the creative methods smugglers use to avoid detection. Customs officials are staying alert with strict checks and advanced monitoring to stop gold smuggling at Indian airports.
