Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: Paradip Port has achieved a significant milestone by securing the top position among major ports, registering a record cargo throughput of 69.137 million metric tons (MMT) in the current fiscal. This accomplishment marks the first time in history that Paradip Port has achieved the highest cargo handling among major ports during the first half of any financial year.

The port has demonstrated remarkable growth, with an 8.5% incremental increase over the same period in the previous fiscal, which is the highest among all major ports. Notably, iron ore, including pellets, handled by Paradip Port Authority (PPA), has shown the highest incremental growth of 45.56% so far.

Since the fiscal year 2016-17, PPA has consistently held the second position in half-yearly cargo handling figures. However, breaking away from this trend, Paradip Port has secured the first position by achieving the highest cargo traffic in the first half of FY 2023-24.

PPA Chairman P.L. Haranadh extended his congratulations to Team PPA for this remarkable performance, expressing gratitude to all stakeholders for their constant support and significant contributions. According to the Indian Ports Association, India’s cargo traffic handled by the 12 major ports reached 393.732 MMT in the first half of FY 2023-24, exhibiting a year-on-year growth of 2.35%. Paradip Port’s achievement further solidifies its position as a key player in India’s maritime landscape.
