Bhubaneswar, Dec 19 – The STF of Odisha Crime Branch Police has apprehended a drug peddler and recovered 1080 grams of brown sugar from his possession.
STF sources here on Tuesday said, on the basis of intelligence input, a raid was conducted by a team of STF in Bhubaneswar near Jodiaghati in Keonjhar district on the night of Monday.
During the raid one drug peddler identified as Rajendra Kumar Majhi was apprehended and contraband brown sugar (heroin) weighing 01 kg, 080 grams (1080 gm), and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from his possession.
The accused person, the STF sources said, could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of such contraband materials. He was arrested and will be forwarded to the court of the Dist. and Sessions Judge, as well as the Spl. Judge, Keonjhar.
A case under Section 21(c) of the NDPS Act 1985 was registered against the accused, and an investigation is ongoing.
A special drive against narcotic drugs is continuing in the state, and the STF, since 2020, has seized more than 74 kg of brown sugar or heroin, 202 grams of cocaine, and more than 116 quintals of ganja or marijuana. Opium weighs 3 kg and 630 grams.
So far, 184 drug dealers and peddlers have been arrested, and the STF has destroyed over 62 kg of seized brown sugar in the last year.
