New Delhi, Nov 22: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Karnataka, over the reported deaths of a woman and her child due to electrocution on a footpath in Bengaluru.

The Commission has sought a detailed report on the matter within six weeks. It should include the status of the FIR and action taken against the officials responsible for the lapses, the NHRC said in a statement.

The Commission took suo motu cognizance of a media report that a 23-year-old woman and her nine-month-old baby were allegedly electrocuted when they stepped on a live electricity wire lying unattended on the footpath near Hope Farm in the Kadugodi area of Bengaluru on November 19. Reportedly, by the time people rushed to help the victims, they were charred to death, it said.
