Mumbai, Oct 20 – Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Nana Patole criticized the ruling BJP, alleging that it opposes providing reservations. He asserted that only the Congress party can effectively address reservation-related issues.

Patole accused the BJP, including Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, of misleading the Maratha and OBC communities on the reservation matter. He claimed that Fadnavis takes different stands in front of the OBC and Maratha communities.

Quoting Ashutosh Kumbakoni, the former advocate general in the Fadnavis government, Patole highlighted Kumbakoni’s public statement that he did not argue in the 2019 Maratha case as instructed by the Fadnavis government.

Expressing sadness over the suicide of a Maratha youth from Jalna district in Mumbai due to the reservation issue, Patole termed the incident unfortunate and urged people not to resort to extreme steps.

Patole accused the BJP of making false promises since coming to power in 2014 and working to mislead the public. He emphasized that resolving the reservation issue requires lifting the 50% ceiling, and the central government must make a decision on this matter.

Highlighting the Congress party’s demand for a caste-based census, Patole suggested that it would help address the reservation problem effectively.
