Nagpur, Dec 16 – MLAs Rohit Pawar and Suman Patil on Friday staged a protest in the Maharashtra Assembly premises demanding to give Rs one lakh per acre to grape growers.
Talking to media on the steps of Assembly, they said the grape growers have to spend Rs four lakh per acre, this year, there is no chance of earning even a single rupee owing to losses suffered by them due to unseasonal rain.
Speaking further, Rohit Pawar said that grape growers are in crisis for past three years as bad weather has broken their back.
Last year also, they received no compensation for the damage caused to grapes, he noted and said that this year too, situation is even worse.
When MLA Patil repeatedly tried to speak in the House on this issue, they were not allowed to speak.
Criticising the BJP-led state government, Rohit Pawar charged that the government was not bothered about those farmers.
Lakhs of farmers are thinking of ending their lives in Marathwada, he added.
