Shillong, Dec 12 – The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat observed its pre-Christmas prayer service and celebration on Monday at its Administrative Block in Khyndailad here.


Speaker Thomas A Sangma conveyed warm greetings and heartfelt wishes as the festive spirit of Christmas draws near. “Amid our legislative responsibilities and duties, I felt that it is important to take a moment to celebrate the blessings of the season and the significance of unity and goodwill,” he said.
Deputy Speaker Timothy D Shira, conveyed his warm greetings to everyone, emphasising the significance of Christmas as a pivotal day for Christians.


Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed his gratitude to the Meghalaya Assembly Speaker and the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat for organizing the pre-Christmas celebration and prayer service.


Reverend Lyndan Syiem delivered the Christmas message and guided the prayer session, reflecting on the birth of Jesus Christ in his address.
The pre-Christmas prayer service featured captivating performances by the children of AW Thomas Girl’s Home and Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, who presented special numbers.
Melodious Christmas Carols, enriched with a traditional touch, resonated through the air as the St. Cecilia Choir of the Laitumkhrah Parish Cathedral, the oldest choir in the Archdiocese of Shillong, showcased their musical prowess.


The Speaker also presented gifts to the children of AW Thomas Girl’s Home.
Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, former speakers and MLAs, officials, and staff of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat took part in the prayer service and celebration.
Meanwhile, prayer services and celebrations are being held across the state to usher in Christmas, the biggest religious event in the Christian-majority hill state.
