Wayanad, Nov 8: Maoists Special Operation Group (SOG) and Thunderbolt squad of Kerala police arrested two Maoists Cadres, including a woman, after an encounter at Periya near Thalapuzha on Tuesday night.
Police also seized three guns, including two AK 47 rifles and a Self Loading Rifle (SLR) from their possession after the encounter.
Police sources said, two maoists cadres Chandru and Unnimaya, who were listed in the lookout notice, were apprehended, after an encounter which lasted around half-an-hour from 2200 to 2230 hours.
Two other women cadres suspected as Sundari and Latha belong to ” Kabaneedhalam group ” managed to escape to the forest area. However, reports said one of them had suffered injuries in the encounter.
Search operations were going on, to nab the two maoist women cadre, at Periya, Koorachundu, Thamarassery and Kottamala forest areas in North Kerala, bordering Karnataka and Tamil Nadu States.
A four-member armed Maoists gang consisting of three women and a man had reached the house of one Aneesh residing at Cherya Chapparam colony near Periya around 2000 hours and sought food and charged their mobile phones.
Commandos of the Police force rushed to the spot around 2200 hours and later an exchange of fire ensued for half an hour between the Maoists and the Commandos.
Thereafter, two cadres were nabbed from the spot with weapons, while the rest two women managed to escape.
The front door of the house was partially damaged after the bullets hit the door in the firing. Seven persons of a family were residing in the house including a child and they are safe.
Police shifted the apprehended Maoists to a secluded place for questioning.
Top Police officials and the Ballistic and forensic experts will reach the encounter spot in the evening, and a large number of police forces were deployed at the forest areas, police sources said.
Earlier, the commandos conducted a search operation at Periya, following a tip-off and after the arrest of one Aneesh Thampi (57) of Tamil Nadu from Koyilandy, on the charges of helping the Maoists.
