Sangli, Nov 01: A 37-year-old man allegedly attempted to immolate self in office of Shirala tehsil in the district on Tuesday in support of Maratha reservation issue and activist Manoj Jarange-Patil’s agitation for the same demand.
The man Devendra Vasant Dhas, resident of Bilashi village in this district, who is tehsil president of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, came at Shirala tehsildar’s office, doused himself with diesel and tried to immolate self, but employees who were present at office, foiled his attempt, police said.
Later, tehsildar Shamla Khot-Patil took him to her chamber, listened to his grievances and consoled him.
