Mumbai, Sep 5 ,Maharashtra NCP (Ajit Pawar group) president and MP Sunil Tatkare on Tuesday expressed that the Election Commission of India will approve the party’s decision to join the ruling NDA government and the grand alliance in the state.
Talking to media at party office here following entry of Shivsangraam activists, he said that on July 2, senior members of the party took a collective decision to join the NDA under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and the grand alliance of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the state.
He explained that they took this decision after fully ensuring the legal and statutory nature of the decision given by the Supreme Court and by the Election Commission in the recent past, he said.
They have conveyed their opinion to the Election Commission and the Lok Sabha Speaker, the NCP chief said and hoped that the Election Commission would take appropriate decision in this regard.
On the Maratha reservation issue, he said that their party was always in favour of it but pointed to the ceiling of 54 per cent reservation.
“We are of the opinion that reservation should be given to the Maratha community while reserving reservation of the OBCs and the right they have,” he expressed.
Tatkare further said that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar held a sub-committee meeting and decided to take further steps after understanding the sentiments of the Maratha community, he added.
