Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Oct 15: Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, Ambadas Danve, on Sunday criticised the tripartite state government for not learning any lessons from continuous accidents happening on the Samruddhi Expressway.
The accident that happened on the Samrudhi highway near Vaijapur town in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district late on Saturday night was not an accident but a systematic murder, he charged and claimed that the government has failed to prevent accidents on the Samruddhi expressway.
Upon hearing news of accident, Danve was first to reach site of accident and inspected the accident spot.
Also, he went to the Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) to meet injured persons and reviewed the occurrence of incident.
He held Transport department responsible for accident and demanded to know how could 35 passengers were allowed to travel in the tempo when its capacity was of 17 people.
The Opposition leader further said that a similar big accident happened in Buldhana few months ago, after that considering the severity of the incident, the Transport department had started checking the vehicles going from Samruddhi expressway.
But, after eight days, again this system was stopped due to some corrupt officials, he alleged.
“People are constantly dying on Samriddhi expressway. Is the government not serious about this,” he asked.
“If people are being killed by stopping vehicles for likely theft, it is a very serious matter,” Danve said.
“It is necessary to enhance the safety and essential facilities on the Samruddhi Highway. If the road is meant for fast travel, why was this vehicle stopped,” he asked and demanded that an inquiry should be made of incident.
