Hyderabad, Oct 28: Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister, K T Rama Rao (KTR), declared on Saturday that the state is among the top five in terms of growth rate in the country.

During the “Meet the Press” program held at the Press Club, Basheerbagh, he highlighted that the state government, under Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), has strategically invested in various productive sectors such as irrigation, Mission Bhagiratha, and Mission Kakatiya, among others.

KTR pointed out that Telangana is a major contributor to employment opportunities nationwide, with the state generating 1.5 lakh jobs out of a total of 4.5 lakh created in a year. Additionally, the Telangana government has undertaken the task of filling 2.2 lakh government jobs, successfully filling 1.32 lakh positions, with plans for another 90,000 jobs in subsequent phases.

He also highlighted Telangana’s remarkable achievement of having at least one medical college in each district. He emphasized the state’s progress in various sectors, including IT, pharmaceuticals, and paddy production.

KTR criticized the Congress, stating that the party’s influence has waned in Andhra Pradesh, with hopes of securing only four seats in Telangana. He pointed out that the people had given the Congress and BJP multiple opportunities to govern but received little in return during their respective regimes.

Regarding the BJP’s unfulfilled promises of doubling farmers’ income and achieving a five-trillion-dollar economy, KTR questioned their credibility. He also responded to claims that Congress was sponsoring farmers from Karnataka, challenging critics to visit Karnataka and witness the situation firsthand.

Addressing concerns about the Medigadda (Lakshmi Barrage) project, KTR assured that it was constructed five years ago and that no additional funds would be wasted on it. The agency responsible for the project would rectify any issues without financial burden, and it has successfully withstood 28 lakh cubic centimeters of floodwater. KTR emphasized the importance of not politicising the Kaleswaram project during election times.

In a response to questions about the BJP’s Backward Class (BC) Chief Minister, KTR emphasized that the quality of leadership is more crucial than caste representation. He questioned whether having a BC Chief Minister would genuinely benefit the BC community, drawing parallels with the performance of a BC Prime Minister, and warned against making excuses against BCs if the BJP lost.
