Pune's Night Temperatures Soar by 12°C in Three Days Due to Cyclone Fengal's Impact
Pune’s minimum temperature has risen sharply, jumping 12°C in just three days — from 9.7°C on Saturday to 21.7°C on Tuesday. Weather experts say this sudden increase is due to the remnants of Cyclone Fengal affecting the region.

Independent weather forecaster Abhijit Modak explained, “The leftover effects of Cyclone Fengal are now influencing Maharashtra’s weather. The rise in Pune’s temperature is caused by a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea near the Mangaluru coast.”

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that the low-pressure system, originally over Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, has now strengthened and moved over coastal Karnataka and the Arabian Sea as of December 3. It is expected to keep moving westward in the next two days, further influencing the weather.
Other places in Maharashtra are also experiencing unusually warm nights. For instance, Solapur recorded a minimum temperature of 23.6°C, which is 7.1°C above normal. Ahilyanagar had 22.4°C, 10°C above normal, and Shivajinagar recorded 21.7°C, 9°C higher than usual.

Modak noted that the shift from dry northeasterly winds to moist southeasterly winds has made nights warmer. Meanwhile, Mangaluru received 156 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, which has brought moisture-laden winds into Maharashtra.
According to the IMD, minimum temperatures are significantly higher than normal (by 5°C or more) in many areas of Telangana, Odisha, Punjab, and Maharashtra.
