Alappuzha, Nov 11 – A 50-year-old farmer, KG Prasad, faced with severe financial distress, tragically ended his life in Thakazhi-Kuttanad, Kerala, on Saturday. Prasad, also the District President of Kissan Sangh, cited the government’s apathy and the denial of loans by his bank, which claimed poor CIBIL score, as the reasons for his extreme step.
In a poignant suicide note, Prasad expressed his frustration over the government’s failure to make payments to the bank for the Paddy Receipt Sheet (PRS) Loan, a lifeline for farmers involved in paddy cultivation. The non-payment for paddy procurement by the government resulted in a low CIBIL score, making it difficult for Prasad to secure the necessary financial support.
The tragic incident sheds light on the struggles faced by farmers, emphasizing the need for effective government intervention to address the financial challenges plaguing the agricultural sector.
