Sangli, Dec 19 – In an operation, Kanpur police of Uttar Pradesh state arrested an absconded robber in Islampur of this district on Monday who robbed golden and silver ornaments from Kanpur (UP) and seized gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs 49 lakhs.

According to Islampur police, the arrested person was identified as Mahesh Vilas Maske, a resident of Nagrale in Palus tehsil of this district.

In Banjariya police jurisdiction in Kanpur (UP), suspected Maske and his gang members took the 15 tola gold and 15 kg silver ornaments from a family of Aiyub Usuf, lured them to sell them in the market for a good amount, and cheated the Yusuf family without giving the amount.

After a cheating case was registered at Kanournagar police station, Maske and his other gang members absconded.

In a search operation, Kanpur police reached Islampur in this district and arrested Maske under the supervision of the Sangli district superintendent of police and the Islampur police team. They recovered ornaments valued at Rs 49 lakh from him, but other gang members absconded.

The police are investigating further.
