Mumbai, April 28 — Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah and his wife, sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan, have strongly criticized online trolls who targeted their one-and-a-half-year-old son, Angad, following Mumbai Indians’ (MI) match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Sunday.

The controversy erupted after a video clip of Angad, who appeared stoic after Bumrah’s remarkable four-wicket haul at the Wankhede Stadium, went viral. Some social media users made insensitive remarks and speculated about the child’s emotional state, prompting a sharp response from his parents.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, Sanjana condemned the unwarranted comments and emphasized that their son should not be treated as a subject of public entertainment. “Jasprit and I do everything in our power to keep Angad away from social media because the Internet is a despicable, vile place to be,” she wrote in her Instagram story. “We were at the match only to support Jasprit and nothing more.”

She also criticized the casual use of terms like “trauma” and “depression” in reference to her young son, describing it as a disturbing reflection of society’s current state. “We have no interest in our son being viral Internet content or national news, with unnecessarily opinionated keyboard warriors deciding who Angad is from three seconds of footage. He is one and a half years old,” Sanjana stated.

Bumrah backed his wife’s statement by sharing her message on his own Instagram story, reinforcing their call for respect, kindness, and responsible behavior online.

On the field, Bumrah delivered a stellar performance, taking four wickets for just 22 runs, helping MI secure a commanding 54-run victory over LSG. The team’s fifth consecutive win propelled them to third place on the IPL points table with six wins from nine matches.

The incident has sparked broader conversations on social media about respecting privacy and showing compassion, particularly towards children associated with public figures.
