Jammu, Nov 18 — In a significant development, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced on Friday that the UT Administration will allocate five marla land to approximately 17,000 eligible landless tribal beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (G).

Speaking at the ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Saptah’ celebration held at the Convention Centre in Jammu, Lt. Governor Sinha dedicated the iconic week to the memory of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and other brave tribal freedom fighters. The event aimed to celebrate and commemorate the rich history, culture, and achievements of tribal communities.

Sinha paid homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda and acknowledged the significant contribution of tribal communities to nation-building. He emphasized that safeguarding the rights and benefits extended to tribal communities is a top priority for the administration.

The Lt. Governor highlighted the efforts of the UT Administration for the welfare and development of tribal communities. Various initiatives, including community and individual forest rights, support for forest produce self-help groups, and promotion of new enterprises, have had a transformative impact in tribal areas.

Economic empowerment has been pursued through projects like sheep farms, dairy units, and the Tri-Wool Project. Educational opportunities have been expanded, making them accessible to all tribal communities. Initiatives such as the construction of new tribal hostels, smart schools, Eklavya, coaching facilities for competitive exams, and skill development programs have contributed to overall development.

Reiterating the administration’s commitment to achieving saturation of government flagship schemes, Lt. Governor Sinha emphasized reaching out to all targeted beneficiaries in a time-bound manner. He mentioned the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra,’ guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which aims to ensure that no tribal family is left out of the journey of development and progress.

The Lt. Governor applauded the efforts of artists for promoting the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities during the event.

Prominent figures present at the Janjatiya Gaurav Saptah event included Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt. Governor; Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Anand Jain, IGP Jammu; Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Deputy Commissioner Jammu; and several senior officers and members of tribal communities.
