ITR Filing Deadline Extended to September 15 for AY 2025-26
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline to file Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the assessment year 2025-26. Taxpayers now have time until September 15, 2025, instead of the original deadline of July 31, 2025.
This decision was made due to major changes in the ITR forms this year and updates being made to the tax filing system. Delays in showing Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) credits also played a role in extending the deadline.

Officials explained that the extension is aimed at making the filing process smoother and more accurate for everyone.
The CBDT has already released all the ITR forms—from ITR-1 to ITR-7—marking the beginning of the new tax season.
Taxpayers are advised to use the extra time wisely, double-check their details, and avoid the stress of filing at the last minute.
