Naz Ozair, a 30-year-old innovator from Muzaffarpur, has created 10 eco-friendly products like cups, plates, banners, and bags using corn husks as a sustainable alternative to plastic.
Naz’s journey began after a personal tragedy. Nearly five years ago, his perfectly healthy nephew passed away from cancer. Doctors explained that even microplastics could contribute to such illnesses. This shocking realization pushed Naz to find natural alternatives to harmful plastics.
An M.Tech graduate, Naz was teaching at an engineering college when he started experimenting with natural materials like bamboo and papaya trees. However, these materials weren’t successful. One day, he noticed that corn husks stayed strong and intact even after the corn was harvested. Seeing their potential, he created his first product from corn husks, which inspired him to develop more items.
Over time, Naz expanded his product range to include cups, plates, banners, and bags. He now has 10 eco-friendly products made from corn husks, which he has showcased to government officials. Local communities have also started placing orders for his products. To protect his invention, Naz has secured a patent for his work.
Reflecting on his journey, Naz shared, “It felt like nature was telling us to use its resources wisely.”
Naz’s father, who works as a private school teacher, supports his efforts. Naz himself left his college job and has been teaching at a school for the past five years while dedicating more time to his research.
Since corn is grown three times a year, Naz believes his innovation can also benefit farmers by giving them a new way to earn income. He continues to expand his range of eco-friendly products, using abundant and easily available materials to promote a more sustainable future.
