New Delhi, Oct 6: India is set to host the ninth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit, known as P20, in New Delhi on the upcoming Friday and Saturday, as announced by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday.

The P20 is an engagement group within the G20 framework, led by the speakers of G20 countries, aiming to bring a parliamentary dimension to global governance.

Themed “Parliament for One Earth, One Family, One Future,” the summit will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 13 and jointly organized by the Parliament and the Ministry of External Affairs.

Om Birla briefed the media, stating that 25 speakers, 10 Deputy Speakers, and 50 members of Parliament, among others, will participate in this global event. Notably, the President of the Pan African Parliament will attend the G20 event for the first time in India.

Four sessions are planned during the summit, with the inaugural session focusing on the “power of democracy.” Canada has confirmed its participation, and while Germany and Argentina will not be attending due to internal reasons, both countries have expressed regret.

As a pre-summit event, the Parliamentary Forum on LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) is scheduled for the 12th of this month. Additionally, an exhibition named “Mother of Democracy” will be organized at the summit venue, highlighting India’s ancient and participative democratic traditions.
