IIT-Madras honours 12 of its alumni in ISRO

Chennai, Oct 9 : The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) bestowed honors upon 12 of its alumni who played crucial roles in India’s historic third Lunar Mission, Chandrayaan-3, during a ceremony on Monday.

Top scientists and engineers from ISRO engaged with students at IIT-Madras and various government schools and colleges in an event titled ‘Over the Moon with Team Chandrayaan-3,’ held on the campus.

Among the honorees were Dr. S. Unnikrishnan Nair, Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), ISRO, who completed his PhD from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras, in 2011, and Dr. P. Veeramuthuvel, Project Director, Chandrayaan-3, ISRO, who earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2016.

Notably, S Somanath, Chairman, ISRO, is currently pursuing a PhD from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras.”
