New Delhi:, NOV 06: In the face of a concerning surge in diabetes cases in India, a recent study conducted by researchers from Patna-based Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital suggests that a combination of herbal formulations enriched with anti-diabetic properties, coupled with a healthy lifestyle and diet, can effectively control blood sugar levels in diabetic patients within 14 days.
The study, published in the International Ayurvedic Medical Journal (IAMJ), focused on a patient with elevated blood sugar levels. The team, led by Assistant Professor Prabhas Chandra Pathak, prescribed a regimen of research-based traditional medicines, including herbal formulations like BGR-34, Arogyavardhani Vati, Chandraprabhavati, cholesterol-reducing drugs, lifestyle adjustments, and a specific diet for two weeks.
After 14 days, the treatment plan was slightly adjusted, leading to significant improvements in the patient’s condition. For instance, the fasting sugar level, which was 254 mg/dl at the beginning of the treatment, decreased to 124 mg/dl. Similarly, the post-breakfast sugar level reduced from 413 to 154 mg/dl.
The researchers noted that the herbal ingredients in BGR-34, such as Daruharidra, Giloe, Vijaysar, Gudmar, Methi, and Majishtha, demonstrated anti-diabetic properties, contributing to the reduction in blood sugar levels.
BGR-34, prepared by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has shown promising results in previous studies conducted by AIIMS Delhi, indicating its effectiveness not only in reducing sugar but also in addressing obesity.
Dr. Sanchit Sharma, Executive Director of Aimil Pharmaceuticals (manufacturer of BGR-34), emphasized the significance of the study’s outcome for diabetic patients who often rely on lifetime medications. He highlighted that these herbal preparations also contribute to increased immunity and antioxidant levels.
Encouraged by the positive results, the researchers recommend a comprehensive larger study to further assess the efficacy of the treatment plan. With diabetes on the rise in India due to sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy dietary habits, innovations in holistic treatments like these offer hope in addressing the diabetes epidemic.
