New Delhi, Nov 7: On Monday, the central government took steps to ensure the affordability of flour, launching the sale of ‘Bharat’ atta at a price not exceeding Rs 27.50 per kilo, just ahead of crucial state polls. Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the sale, flagging off 100 mobile vans dedicated to the distribution of Bharat brand atta.

The government emphasized that the atta’s maximum retail price (MRP) would be capped at Rs 27.50/kg, marking the latest move in a series of initiatives aimed at the welfare of ordinary consumers. The retail sale of ‘Bharat’ brand atta is expected to augment market supplies at reasonable rates, contributing to the ongoing moderation of prices for this essential food item.

From today onwards, ‘Bharat’ Atta will be available at all physical and mobile outlets of Kendriya Bhandar, NAFED, and NCCF, with plans to expand to other cooperative retail outlets. A substantial allocation of 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of wheat, priced at Rs 21.50/kg, has been made for Semi-Government and cooperative organizations like Kendriya Bhandar, NCCF, and NAFED under the Open Market Sale Scheme. This allocation aims to facilitate the production of atta for public sale under the ‘Bharat Atta’ brand.

During the launch event, Piyush Goyal highlighted that the government’s interventions have effectively stabilized the prices of essential commodities. He mentioned past measures taken to address price fluctuations in items like tomatoes and onions. Additionally, the government is providing relief to consumers by offering ‘Bharat Dal’ at Rs 60 per kg through Kendriya Bhandar, NAFED, and NCCF.
