The Goa Carnival, starting on February 28, 2025, is a highly anticipated event featuring colorful float parades across Goa’s coastal state, beginning on March 1. Originally introduced by the Portuguese in the 16th century, it’s a festival celebrated before Lent, marking Goa’s 450-year connection to Portuguese culture.

Inspired by Brazil’s Rio Carnival and revived in 1965 by Goan musician Timoteo Fernandes, today’s Goa Carnival showcases Goa’s diverse heritage with music, dance performances, and elaborate floats. King Momo, this year represented by Cleeven Mathew Fernandes from Benaulim, leads the festivities, urging everyone to “Eat, drink, and make merry!”

The carnival unfolds from February 28 to March 4 in different cities:

  • February 28: Porvorim
  • March 1: Panaji (Opening Parade)
  • March 2: Margao
  • March 3: Vasco da Gama
  • March 4: Mapusa & Morjim

Each city hosts unique parades, street performances, concerts, and local food delights, with Panaji featuring the grandest parade in March. The carnival concludes with a masquerade ball on March 4, where thousands dress in red and black for a lively celebration of dance and music.

Don’t miss the chance to savor Goan specialties like Pork Vindaloo, Bebinca, Feni, and Prawn Balchão during this vibrant event. Remember to wear colorful outfits, book accommodations early, stay hydrated, and be cautious in large crowds.

The Goa Carnival 2025 promises an unforgettable experience, celebrating joy, tradition, and community spirit through its spectacular parades and cultural performances.
