Ahmedabad, Gujarat – February 8, 2024: A fire broke out early Saturday morning at the under-construction Sabarmati bullet train station in Ahmedabad, officials said. The fire started around 6:30 a.m., and thirteen fire trucks were sent to control the flames.

According to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the fire happened in the roof shuttering of a section under construction. Welding sparks from temporary work may have caused the fire, but the exact reason is still unknown. Fortunately, no one was injured, and there were no casualties. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the site.

The Sabarmati bullet train station is India’s first high-speed rail station, designed with modern technology. The project is being built with support from Japan and is part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor. This 508-km route will have 12 stations, covering 352 km in Gujarat and 156 km in Maharashtra.

In December 2023, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of the station’s modern design on social media.
