FDA Launches Statewide Milk Adulteration Check in Maharashtra
Mumbai: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a statewide survey on January 15 to tackle the issue of milk adulteration. A total of 1,062 milk samples were collected for testing. These included 680 samples of packaged milk from well-known brands and 382 samples of loose milk from various sources across Maharashtra.
Milk is a daily essential for people of all ages, making its safety and quality critical. To ensure this, the FDA, under the guidance of Minister Narhari Zirwal, Minister of State Yogesh Kadam, and Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, organized the survey. Starting at 5 AM, food safety officers collected samples from producers, distributors, vendors, and roadside sellers.
The samples were sent to certified food labs to test for quality, adulteration, and harmful chemicals. If any sample is found to be adulterated, strict action will be taken against the culprits under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
This effort is part of the FDA’s commitment to ensure safe milk for everyone. Regular checks will continue to protect consumers. Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar has urged citizens to report cases of milk or food adulteration by calling the FDA helpline at 1800222365, emailing jc-foodhq@gov.in, or using the consumer grievance portal at https://foscos.fssai.gov.in/consumergrievance.
