Nagpur, Sep 7 Maharashtra Pradesh Congress committee (MPCC) president Nana Patole on Thursday said that if his party is voted to power, it would provide reservation to the Maratha community by increasing the 50 per cent cap on quota.
Patole, who was addressing a press conference in Nagpur on the sidelines of the Congress’ ‘Jan Samvad Yatra’, said if his party is voted to power in Maharashtra and at the Centre in the next elections, it would provide reservation to the Maratha community by increasing the 50 per cent cap on quota.
Patole also said that caste-based census is the only option for a permanent solution to provide reservation and give justice for all sections of the society.
The MPCC chief also claimed that Congress government led by prime minister Manmohan Singh had worked in this respect and a census was carried out in 2011.
However, after BJP led Modi government came to power in 2014 and it did not take the caste-based census forwards, Patole claimed.
He also said that the BJP is against the caste-based census and they will never give reservation.
“Our party has taken a clear stand that if it comes to power in the state and at the Centre, it will give reservation to the Maratha community by increasing the 50 percent ceiling without touching the reservation of other communities, Patole added.
