New Delhi, Nov 4: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully apprehended an impersonator who posed as a CBI official and allegedly accepted a bribe from a complainant. The arrest came following a case registered based on the complainant’s report against the impersonator, identified as Sadiq Qureshi, and other unidentified individuals.
According to the CBI statement, the accused, impersonating himself as the Personal Assistant to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of CBI in Nagpur, approached a Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer at Central Railway, Nagpur. The impersonator claimed that there were pending complaints against the engineer in the CBI, offering to handle the matter in exchange for an undue advantage.
In response to the alleged bribery demand, the CBI set up a trap, catching the accused red-handed while accepting a part payment of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant.
Searches conducted at the accused’s premises resulted in the recovery of incriminating documents. The CBI is actively pursuing the case to ensure legal action against the impersonator and any accomplices involved.
