New Delhi, Oct 20: In a significant decision, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all six mandated Rabi crops for the marketing season 2024-25.

The approved MSP adjustments include a raise of Rs 150 per quintal for wheat, bringing it to Rs 2,275 per quintal. Lentil (Masur) sees a substantial increase of Rs 425 per quintal, reaching Rs 6,425 per quintal. Gram witnesses a hike of Rs 105 per quintal, setting the new MSP at Rs 5,440 per quintal, while barley gets an increase of Rs 115 per quintal, reaching Rs 1,850 per quintal.

Mustard and safflower also experience MSP increments as part of the decision.

According to an official release after the Cabinet meeting, the highest absolute increase in MSP is for lentil (masur) at Rs 425 per quintal, followed by rapeseed & mustard at Rs 200 per quintal. Wheat and safflower both see an increase of Rs 150 per quintal. Barley and gram witness hikes of Rs 115 per quintal and Rs 105 per quintal, respectively.

The move aims to ensure remunerative prices for growers and is in line with the government’s commitment to boosting farmers’ income. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur emphasized the government’s dedication to increasing farmers’ income and promoting crop diversification through various schemes that have contributed to enhanced crop productivity.
