Jalandhar, Oct 17: To address the issue of noise pollution, Bhubaneswar’s Commissionerate Police has issued an order prohibiting the use of horns in residential areas during nighttime hours (10 pm to 6 am) within its jurisdiction. The directive, enacted under section 144 of the CrPC, encompasses restrictions on activities contributing to noise pollution, such as playing DJs, utilizing sound amplifiers, setting off firecrackers, maintaining noise levels at the boundaries of public places, and operating public address systems that exceed 10 dB (A).

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankur Gupta emphasized that drumming, playing trumpets or other instruments, except in public emergencies, is also prohibited during the specified nighttime hours. Additionally, privately owned sound systems are required to maintain a peripheral noise level not exceeding 7.5 dB (A). Violations of these orders may result in the confiscation of sound instruments.

The prohibition will be effective until January 13, 2024
