BCCI Releases Revised IPL 2025 Schedule, Tournament to Resume on May 17
New Delhi, May 13 — The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the revised schedule for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The tournament, which was paused due to escalating India-Pakistan border tensions, will resume on May 17 with a high-voltage clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The suspension had also resulted in the abandonment of the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match on May 8 in Dharamsala. A total of 17 matches are scheduled to be played across six cities—Bengaluru, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad—with two Sunday double-headers included in the revised itinerary.
Playoff Schedule Announced
The BCCI confirmed the playoff dates, while venues will be announced in the coming days:
- Qualifier 1 – May 29
- Eliminator – May 30
- Qualifier 2 – June 1
- Final – June 3
Key Venue and Team Updates
Dispelling earlier reports that suggested all remaining matches would be shifted to southern cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, the BCCI opted for a more geographically diverse schedule. Notably, Chennai and Hyderabad have been excluded from the revised list of venues.
- Punjab Kings (PBKS) will play all their remaining matches, including the replay against Delhi Capitals on May 24, in Jaipur.
- Delhi will host the final home games for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), both of whom are out of the playoff race. CSK face Rajasthan Royals on May 20, while SRH take on KKR on May 25.
- Mumbai Indians (MI), still vying for a playoff berth, will host Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium on May 21.
- RCB’s last league game has been shifted to Lucknow.
Overseas Player Availability in Doubt
The mid-season halt has created uncertainty around the availability of several overseas players, many of whom have already returned home. Their participation in the remaining matches is in question due to impending international assignments, including the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, which begins on June 11. Key players from Australia and South Africa are expected to be involved in that clash, complicating their return to the IPL.
BCCI Thanks Armed Forces
In a statement, the BCCI expressed its sincere gratitude to the Indian armed forces for their efforts in ensuring the safe and timely resumption of the league. The board acknowledged the crucial role played by security agencies in facilitating the restart of the tournament under challenging circumstances.
As the league heads into its final phase, teams will battle it out for playoff spots in what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to IPL 2025.
