Guwahati, Dec.01 – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday received the certificates from the Guinness World Record for a mega tree plantation in Assam.

Sarma received the certificates from Guinness World Record Adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar at a function held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra here.

It was noted that Chief Minister Sarma launched Amrit Brikshya Andolan, and as a part of the drive, a total of 1,11,17,781 seedlings of commercially valuable tree species were planted across the state on a single day on September 17, 2023.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarma said that the Amrit Brikshya Andolan was launched to strengthen Assam’s economy through forests. He said that an economy in sync with ecology is one of the priorities, and the state government is working towards a green economy.

He also said that in the years 2024 and 2025, the state government would endeavor to plant three crore and five crore saplings, respectively.

He also said that in the year 2025, the state government would also try to create one more record by staging the Bihu dance in New Delhi with the participation of 25 thousand Bihu and Bihuwati.

Environment and Forests Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, additional chief secretary Rabi Sankar Prasad, and PCCF M.K. Yadava also spoke on the occasion. MP Queen Oja, MLA Suren Phukan, Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur, and DGP GP Singh attended the meeting.
