Kolhapur, Oct 18: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two Mahavitaran employees — an additional working engineer (class-I) and assistant accountant (class-III) — while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 36,000 from a complainant at sub-divisional office in Ichalkaranji town of the district.

Accused — Suyog Dinkar Patankar (47), additional engineer, and Ravindra Bapuso Birnale (38), assistant accountant, had demanded a bribe of Rs 36,000 from complainant for reducing amount of fine levied for illegally using electricity, a press release issued by ACB said here.

However, complainant informed about this to ACB, whose team laid a trap at Mahavitaran office in Ichalkaranji on Tuesday evening and arrested Birnale while accepting bribe money from complainant on behalf of Patankar.

ACB officials later arrested Patankar also for his involvement and registered a case of corruption against two suspects at Shivaji Nagar police station in Ichalkaranji, the release added.
